Over time, our teeth may begin to weaken or become decayed, cracked or discolored. Depending on the damage, filling or bonding the teeth may not be sufficient. Crowns are a great way to restore your smile—and your confidence.
Crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to gold alloy, or gold alloy. Porcelain, which is matched to the shade of your other teeth, is the most natural-looking option.
The process of installing a crown takes two or three appointments. On the first visit, Riverfront Dental Care of Toms River, NJ, reshapes your tooth so the crown can be placed over it. We’ll give you a local anesthetic, so you’ll have no discomfort.
Once the tooth is reshaped, we’ll take a mold of the area and send it to a dental lab for the creation of your crown. Before you leave, Riverfront Dental Care will fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready.
Within two to three weeks, the crown will be returned to Riverfront Dental Care. At that time, we’ll place and fit the permanent crown with cement. When you look in the mirror, you’ll see your new and improved smile.
Crowns are durable, and with proper care, will last a long time. Be sure to brush and floss regularly, as you would your regular teeth.
